🦀 Firmware Intern – Rust (6-12 months)

About the role

Join our embedded systems team to develop real-time firmware and low-level control software for robotic gloves and hands. You will work on motor control, sensor interfaces, communications, and hardware validation that make responsive robotic hardware possible.

Requirements

• 01Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 02Experience programming in Rust; embedded Rust experience is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of Rust fundamentals: borrowing, aliasing, async/await, traits, generics, etc.
• 03Understanding of microcontrollers, interrupts, timers, DMA, and real-time constraints.
• 04Strong understanding of different synchronization primitives.
• 05Familiarity with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, or other embedded communication protocols.
• 06Comfort debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, and serial tools.
• 07(+) Experience with Embassy, RTIC, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar RTOS/async embedded frameworks.
• 08(+) Knowledge of BLDC motor control, FOC, current sensing, or encoder interfaces.
• 09(+) Experience with CANopen CiA 402, EtherCAT, or bootloaders.
• 10(+) Python or C/C++ experience for test automation and integration.
• 11(+) TypeScript + React for GUIs.

Details & responsibilities

• 01Develop and debug Rust firmware for motor controllers, sensor interfaces, and embedded communications.
• 02Implement and optimize deterministic control loops, state machines, and calibration workflows.
• 03Integrate tactile, force, IMU, encoder, and position sensors into real-time embedded systems.
• 04Build test utilities and diagnostics for board bring-up, manufacturing checks, and hardware-in-the-loop validation.
• 05Collaborate with EE, mechanical, controls, and AI teams to improve system performance and reliability.
• 06A Proception employee will reach out directly to schedule additional interviews.
• 07A portfolio is recommended where relevant.
• 08Interview process: two technical interviews and one CEO interview.
