🦀 Embedded Linux Intern – Rust / Real-Time Linux (6-12 months)

About the role

Join our platform software team to build the Linux-based embedded systems that coordinate humanoid robot subsystems. You will work close to the hardware on real-time communication, device integration, observability, and robust deployment using Rust and modern Linux tooling.

Requirements

• 01Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• 02Strong Rust programming skills and comfort developing on Linux.
• 03Understanding of operating systems concepts: processes, threads, synchronization, networking, and memory management.
• 04Experience debugging systems with shell tools, logs, gdb, perf, tracing, or equivalent tooling.
• 05Ability to work across software and physical hardware in a fast-moving robotics environment.
• 06(+) Experience with PREEMPT_RT, kernel configuration, device drivers, or Yocto/Buildroot.
• 07(+) Experience with EtherCAT, SocketCAN, CANopen, ROS/ROS2, or robotic middleware.
• 08(+) Experience with async Rust, Tokio, embedded-hal, or systems observability.
• 09(+) Familiarity with CI, containerized builds, and hardware test automation.

Details & responsibilities

• 01Develop Rust services and low-level components for embedded Linux robotic controllers.
• 02Integrate fieldbus and device interfaces, including CAN/CAN-FD, EtherCAT, serial, SPI, and Ethernet-based systems.
• 03Measure and improve latency, scheduling behavior, startup reliability, and fault recovery on real-time Linux platforms.
• 04Build diagnostics, logging, telemetry, and test tools for system bring-up and field debugging.
• 05Collaborate with firmware, controls, and hardware teams to integrate multi-actuator robot subsystems.
• 06A Proception employee will reach out directly to schedule additional interviews.
• 07A portfolio is recommended where relevant.
• 08Interview process: two technical interviews and one CEO interview.
